Marta, thanks for making the time. I'd like to start at the beginning: how did you end up deciding to rewrite onboarding?

It was pretty uncomfortable, honestly. We had an onboarding flow that did reasonably well on activation metrics, but when we sat down to watch the session recordings we saw people completing the steps without understanding what they were setting up.

So, good numbers and poor comprehension. How exactly did you spot it?

We transcribed thirty user interviews and looked for language patterns. The word that came up most was «guess». People kept saying «I guess this connects my calendar». That «guess» cost us about six weeks of work, but it was the clearest signal we've ever had.

In detail
WAV is what a decent recorder writes when you tell it not to compromise: no compression, nothing thrown away, the waveform as the microphone heard it. It's the best possible input for speech recognition, and also the heaviest.
An hour of stereo WAV at 48 kHz is around 600 MB — roughly sixty times an MP3 of the same hour. That's the only real friction here, and it's an upload problem, not a transcription one: you can drop files up to 10 GB and there's no need to compress them first.
